Introducing Watchlist in Tunerfish for iPhone v2.2

February 3rd, 2012 — 4:02pm

You probably haven’t heard from us in a while, but today we’re proud to announce one of the biggest updates to Tunerfish yet: Tunerfish for iPhone v2.2 featuring Watchlist.

Watchlist marks a turning point for Tunerfish. When we first launched, we were focused squarely on one problem: making it easy to share what you’re watching and discover what your friends are watching. But along the way, we realized that we missed an important aspect of how people watch TV. It’s important to know what and when your friends are watching, but also when you can watch it yourself. This was the genesis of Watchlist.

Watchlist is your personalized TV guide, designed to make sure you never miss an episode of your favorite shows, and can find out when new shows you’re interested in are on. Every time you want to keep track of a TV show—whether it’s a favorite, or a new discovery—add it to your Watchlist and Tunerfish will always let you know when it’s on.

OK, so how does it work? Simple:

Tap the “+ Watchlist” button in the top right corner of any show page to keep track of it. When you visit the Watchlist tab, you’ll see when and where upcoming episodes are on TV. We’ll send you a notification early in the day letting you know if there are any new episodes of shows on your Watchlist on today, and you can even set a reminder for a few minutes before the episode to make sure you don’t miss it. And you can always check out what your friends are excited about by checking out what they’re adding to their Watchlists in real-time in the activity feed.

To get started, all you need to do is visit the Watchlist tab and enter your zip code to set your channel lineup. And for existing Tunerfish users, we went ahead and added all your fanned shows to your Watchlist to get you started.

We’ve always believed that Tunerfish is more than just a way to connect with your friends around the shows you love; that social can fundamentally change the way we interact with TV. With Watchlist, we’re taking a step in the direction of making Tunerfish not just an app you pull up once you’ve tuned in to something you love, but a companion makes sure you never miss the TV you care about.

Watchlist is exclusively available on the Tunerfish iPhone app, available today in the App Store. Download it now!

From our living room to yours, happy watching!

Introducing Tunerfish 2.0 for Android

November 3rd, 2011 — 1:54pm

Hello Android-loving Tunerfishers! Today we’ve got some big news for you: we’re pleased to announce the arrival of Tunerfish 2.0 for Android. For months, we’ve been working behind the scenes to make Tunerfish a better way to share what you’re watching and discover new stuff to watch—and we’re excited to be bringing it to the Android platform.

We started by giving the Android app the same great look that we brought to iPhone earlier this summer. Show pages are richer, user profiles are more personal, activity is easier to scan, and you can more easily check out what TV shows, movies, and videos are popular right now. And Liking and Fanning are also making their debut on Android. Like a user’s activity to give a shout-out that you dig what they’re up to, and become a Fan of your favorite shows to share your passion even when you’re not watching right now. Just like on iPhone and the web, the show page makes it easy to see what a show’s fans are saying about why they love it—and everything you’re a fan of is shown off proudly on your new profile.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, grab the latest and greatest version of the Tunerfish app at the Android Market.

Oh, and one more thing: A tablet-compatible version of Tunerfish for Android is coming soon. Stay tuned!

Happy watching!

Ready for Primetime!

September 12th, 2011 — 2:20pm

Just in time for the Fall TV season, we’ve got a gorgeous new release of the Tunerfish iPhone app. Here are 8 things you’ll love about it:

Easier check-in: Thanks to the new “Your Most Watched” list (located below the search box), you can now check-in to your top shows without typing a single character.

More visual search: We’ve dramatically improved our search algorithms and added images to the results listings, making it much easier to spot the particular show or movie you’re looking for.

Upcoming episode airtimes: Now, when you’re looking at a show page, you’ll see a short description and what network it’s on – and if there’s a new episode soon to air, you’ll see what day and time it’s on.

Popular-by-media-type: Now you can filter the Popular display to see what’s trending specifically in TV, movies, or online video.

Award progression meter: Now, as you’re checking-in to shows and movies that earn you genre points, you’ll see how close you are to the next level award. So, whether it’s the Time Machine (second level of the science fiction genre), 15 Minutes of Fame (third level of the reality show genre), or the Basic Black Dress (first level of the fashion show genre) – you’ll always know where you stand.

Spotlight: If there’s a special award (such as for a show premiering tonight), we’ll make it easier for you to discover it by featuring it in our new Spotlight area below the search box and above Your Most Watched.

Faster and easier Facebook authentication: Got the Facebook app installed? Your authentication via Facebook will be super-fast.

Plus, improved stability and performance!

So, download it now. You’ll definitely want this app by your side as the Fall TV season unfolds. Happy watching!

Tunerfish 2.0 for iPhone arrives!

July 22nd, 2011 — 4:41pm

You might be wondering why it’s been so quiet here on the blog recently. The entire Tunerfish team has been heads down for the past few months working away on some big projects. And we’re pleased to share the fruit of our efforts with you: Tunerfish for iPhone 2.0, the biggest release of our iPhone app yet.

Tunerfish 2.0 for iPhone! Hoorah!

We started out a few months back with the goal of taking a few new features we’d introduced on the web, the ability to like other users’ activity and become a fan of your favorite shows, and bringing them into the iPhone app. But we wanted to do more than that: Like and Fan are about connecting with others around the entertainment you’re passionate about, so we explored how to improve the social experience throughout the app.

The result? We redesigned the Tunerfish app from the ground up to improve the experience of sharing what you’re watching and discovering great new things out there that you might be missing.

Here are just a few of the nifty things we’ve added:

Fan it! Just like on the web, become a fan of your favorite shows to share your love even when you’re not watching. Add an explanation to tell the world why you love the show—the most popular fan explanations are displayed proudly on the show’s page.
Like it! Liking someone’s activity is a fun and easy way to give a shout-out that you love their comment or are tickled by what they’re watching. You can even see what your friends are liking, right on the…
Brand new activity feed. We made it easier to see in real time what your friends are watching, what they’re saying about it, and who they’re interacting with.
Redesigned popular page. Now with just one glance and one swipe, you can see all of what’s popular in the Tunerfish universe, and which of your friends are watching.
Swanky new show pages. What’s most important to you when you’re checking out a show? First, we put the most important stats up at the top—how many folks are watching now, total overall watches, and how many people are fans. Then, we added in which of your friends are watching now and are fans, what fans are saying about the show, and the most recent discussions. We love how easy it is to learn more about shows and join in on the fun.
More personal profiles. One thing we’ve heard a lot is that people want to be able to really capture what they’re passionate about on their profile. So we brought out users’ key stats on the profile—total watches, awards, and fanned shows—as well proudly displaying awards and fanned shows front and center.

These are just a few of the big changes to the Tunerfish app. We’re thrilled to share our hard work with you, and can’t wait to hear what you think.

P.S.: It’s live in the app store for your downloading pleasure!

Expanding our social gestures: Introducing Fanning and Liking.

March 8th, 2011 — 10:34am

It’s about to get a lot more active in Tunerfish…

Fan it!
Starting today, you can now share your passion for your favorite shows, movies, and videos, whenever you want to (not just when you’re check-in to them). Whether you love Saturday Night Live, The Sound of Music, or the Double Rainbow Song, show it off with pride by fanning it on Tunerfish. It’s fun. It’s social. And it will help us help you find more stuff you’ll love.

Oh, and it’ll really trick out your profile, too. Check out mine:

Like it!
Ever see that one of your friends is watching one of your favorite shows or movies? What about when someone posts a really insightful or funny comment? Now you can give them a shout-out by liking their activity. Liking also shares the activity with your followers to spread the love.

Swim in the Stream!
With the new social gestures comes a revamped approach to displaying it. Go for a swim in the completely revamped activity stream, which gives greater emphasis to your community on Tunerfish. It’s now easier than ever to spark or join a conversation.

We’ve already rolled these out on the web. Check them out! And we’ll be bringing them to our iPhone and Android apps in a few weeks.

Tunerfish for iPhone Just Got Even Better

December 14th, 2010 — 11:31am

Yes, we did just roll out a new version of our iPhone app a few weeks ago. But there were a few things that we really wanted to include that didn’t make it into that release. In particular, we wanted a better, more interactive trending view, and we wanted to take push notifications to the next level with friend-watching alerts and a settings panel. Introducing the latest, greatest Tunerfish for iPhone!

A Better, More Interactive Trending View
We created the trending feature to make it easier to see what’s rising in popularity — across the entire Tunerfish community or just amongst the people you care about. Now, we’ve made that trending view a richer, more interactive experience by giving it an interface that features left-right swiping (for primary navigation) and card-flipping (for seeing which of your friends watched). It really brings the magic of the iPhone to Tunerfish.

Taking Push Notifications to the Next Level
In our last release, we introduced push notifications, a delightful way to get a little tickle when a friend of yours joins Tunerfish or when you influence someone to watch what you’ve shared. Now, we take push notifications to the next level with friend-watching alerts and a notifications settings panel. With friend-watching alerts, we’ll send you a push notification to let you know what your friends are watching without having to keep checking the stream or trending views. And with the new settings panel, you can control what notifications you want to receive. This is just the first release of the settings panel; we plan to give you even more granular control in the future. Find the new Settings panel at the top of your profile page.

And a Few More Things
We’ve also added the ability to hook up Facebook or Twitter more easily — including right in the middle of sharing something! Plus there’s support for fast app switching and, of course, some bug fixing.

We hope you like the improvements as much as we have during testing. You’ll find it in the app store here.

John
